'Apprentice: Martha Stewart': Coffee, Tea or Failure? Poor Primarius. They can't seem to catch a break, can they? Last week, they were outsold during the QVC outdoor-product sales shenanigans by a fresh-faced, confident Matchstick. It'll take some elbow grease for the Primarius Trio of Strife -- Bethenny, Jim and the ever-reluctant Dawna -- to pull out a victory tonight (November 16).After watching Howie's sacrifice on the Altar of Faux Finishing, Primarius joins their fellow players back in the loft. Dawna is disgusted with herself; she feels like she "really hurt Bethenny's feelings." Dawna's interview tears are for naught when Bethenny gives her a great big ol' Noo Yawk hug. Matchstick's Amanda, meanwhile, is confused: If Martha insists on keeping Jim around, does that mean someone like Amanda doesn't stand a chance?I love me some foreshadowing. The next morning, Martha (via video) gives the remaining candidates their next task. They're asked to set up a "pop-up" retail store, using $40,000 in seed money, to sell a new product -- the Tassimo Hot Beverage System. It makes coffee, tea, espresso drinks, hot cocoa and liquid gold (just kidding). Seriously though, it does everything but make your bed and take your kids to school. Like last week's gig, the goal is to sell the most units in one day.Jim is appointed Primarius' Project Manager, and he, Dawna and Bethenny decide to fill their ranks by hiring a publicity firm. Over at Matchstick, Marcela has been appointed PM -- which means she and Jim will be going head to head a second time. (For those not keeping score, Jim's team came out victorious last time.) From the get-go, Marcela senses discord among the ranks -- and it's not an illusion. Ryan and Amanda are already unhappy, and Marcela is unhappy with their collective 'tudes.Once the teams are given their storefronts, they approach their tasks very differently. Bethenny and Jim decide to clean theirs up before selling like the dickens tomorrow -- hopefully with the help of their PR firm. Marcela, meanwhile, focuses on trying to get a celebrity chef into Matchstick's storefront to attract potential buyers. Amanda is wary of this idea, wondering if Marcela -- as a chef -- is focusing too much on the store's "Free Food" and not enough on the "Product Martha Asked Us to Sell." When Marcela and Leslie leave to scope the neighborhood, Amanda and Ryan decide to forgo Marcela's famous chef idea -- preferring to find a "real" celebrity. After making some calls -- and offering managers $15,000 for the privilege -- Ryan is about to snag a personal appearance from Vincent "Big Pussy" Pastore from HBO's "The Sopranos."Alas, Marcela doesn't think "Come Meet 'Big Pussy'" would look right on a flyer and nixes the idea. Over at Primarius, Dawna has agreed to pay Line PR and Promotions a whopping $30,000 for their help. Bethenny and Jim are displeased, but figure it'll only reflect on her if they lose the task. The next morning, both stores open to the public. Matchstick's looks pretty great; their free food, provided by chef Jennifer Roach (nice name), is bringing the crowds in. However, no one seems to be able to actually sell the Tassimo beverage maker -- the whole reason the store exists. At Primarius, sales and foot traffic are slow until Line PR's people start canvassing the streets and making their workers wear funny coffee-cup costumes. Business booms; Jim sells Tassimos hand over fist. Finally, the two teams meet back in the conference room. After hiring a famous chef and offering their product at the suggested retail price ($169), Matchstick sold 9 units for a total of approx. $1800. Primarius, however, sold a whopping 36 units at the same price -- netting them over $6600. Primarius wins! For their efforts, Martha sends them on a private jet to her vacation home in Bar Harbor, Maine, where they get a tour from Alexis and join her for a picnic lunch (veggie for Bethenny!) on board a motorboat. The Primarians are positively ecstatic. Back in the loft, Marcela is packing her things whilst crying, Amanda talks smack about Marcela to anyone that'll listen and Ryan pleads his "Marcela's Gotta Go" case to Jim. Jim, of all people, thinks Marcela is getting a bad rap -- and gives her what she calls "the best pep talk ever."There is much debating back in the conference room. Marcela is willing to take some of the blame but feels like no one supported her. Amanda just likes to talk about herself and her qualifications. Leslie is proud of her and Marcela's Latina heritage. Ryan doesn't want anyone questioning his loyalties, dude. Finally, Marcela sends Lucky Leslie back to the loft.Martha, fired up (no pun intended) like never before, can't understand why Matchstick couldn't unify under Marcela with a united front of passion. Passion is key! Ryan shouldn't have let a leader like Marcela fail, and Marcela didn't inspire cohesion, but Amanda didn't show herself to be a team player. Martha wishes Amanda well ... and kicks her keester onto the cold, hard city streets. But not before writing a note wishing Amanda well with her garden at home. That's sweet.Next week: Jim impersonates a tiger. This show is the best!Courtney Potter lives in Los Angeles, writes the "TV Best Bets" column for Zap2it.com and wears an ankle bracelet tracking device -- but just for fun.
